3 Signs That Your Natural Hair Needs Protein
1. Lack of popping!
When your curls start to get mushy and straggly looking it’s about that time to add protein. My hair will begin looking thinner and more “see through” like the density has lessened. It feels like I am losing hair.
2. Excessive Shedding and Consistent Breakage!
Too much shedding can be a sign that your hair needs balance. Breakage easily occurs when your hair is weak and limp.
3. Change in Hair Porosity:
If your hair is high porosity it may need to get treated. I always thought our hair porosity stays the same throughout our journey but I have found my hair has changed over time. I began my hair journey with highly porosity hair but after doing henna for years and relocating to Dallas, my hair is now low porosity. I must utilize the baggy method or steam caps to get products to penetrate my strands at times. All this to say frequently test your clean hair strands for your porosity especially when you feel drastic changes.
IF you are experiencing shedding, breakage, straggly curls or coils, or you have high porosity. GIRL go ahead and get some protein. I recommend doing protein treatments around once per month, but do what’s best for you.
